| Born Chester Arthur Burnett in rural Mississippi this day in 1910, the American blues singer and composer who became known as Howlin' Wolf was one of the principal exponents of the Chicago blues style. Like Muddy Waters, he moved north to Chicago, where in the 1950s they and others made the city a centre for the transformation of the (acoustic) Mississippi Delta blues style into an electrically amplified style for urban audiences. |
