| John F. Kennedy, born this day in 1917, was the 35th president of the United States (1961–63). His administration faced a number of foreign crises, most notably the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban missile crisis, and the building of the Berlin Wall. His achievements included the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and the Alliance for Progress, intended to promote democracies in Latin America. He was assassinated while riding in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. |
