public institution covering 400 acres (160 hectares) in Ogden, Utah, 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Salt Lake City. Its origins trace back to 1889, though it did not become a senior college until 1961. Enrollment consists of roughly 8,600 full-time undergraduates, 5,700 part-time undergraduates, and 160 graduate students. The university primarily serves state residents, and the majority of students commute to class.

Weber State operates on the quarter system and awards degrees at the associate through master's levels. About two thirds of the full-time faculty hold doctorates. Disciplines offered to undergraduates include liberal arts and sciences, business, computer and information sciences, criminal justice, dental services, engineering technologies, health professions, transportation management, design technology, communications, education, visual and performing arts, home economics, and social work. The university conducts graduate studies in education.

Extracurricular activities at Weber State include publications, musical and theatrical groups, fraternities and sororities, religious organizations, and an international students' association. Varsity teams, nicknamed the Wildcats, compete at various levels within Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. School colors are royal purple and white.
