(1902–65), U.S. motion-picture producer. David O. Selznick was born on May 10, 1902, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He learned about the film industry at Selznick Pictures, owned by his father, Lewis. He then worked for various Hollywood studios in the 1920s and 1930s, producing such pictures as ‘King Kong' and ‘Dinner at Eight' (both 1933). He headed Selznick International Pictures, Inc., from 1935 to 1940 and won Academy awards for ‘Gone with the Wind' (1939) and ‘Rebecca' (1940). He produced ‘A Star Is Born', ‘The Prisoner of Zenda', ‘Intermezzo', and ‘Jane Eyre' as well.
