private institution in Savannah, Ga., dedicated to the fine arts. The college, founded in 1978, is located in renovated historic buildings. In addition to state-of-the-art equipment, the college contains numerous galleries that host exhibits by professionals as well as by students and staff. Total enrollment is roughly 2,000 undergraduates and 300 graduate students. The college attracts students from across the United States and several foreign countries. The numbers of men and women attending are relatively equal. About a quarter of the students live in campus housing.

The academic calendar is divided into quarters. Many faculty members have professional experience, and most hold terminal degrees in their field. The college awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Fields of study include art history, computer art, fashion, fibers, furniture design, graphic design, historic preservation, illustration, sequential art, interior design, metals and jewelry, painting, photography, video, and architecture. Optional summer sessions include programs in New York and abroad. About 10 percent of the undergraduates pursue advanced studies within a year of graduation.

The college conducts some 30 extracurricular activities, including student government, a drama club, arts groups, and intramural sports. Varsity sports teams compete in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
