Roman Catholic institution located in New Mexico's capital city of Santa Fe and run by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. It was chartered in 1874 and founded in 1947. The campus covers about 100 acres (40 hectares), and about half of the students live in on-site housing. A large communications center was added as a gift from actress Greer Garson, an adjunct professor on the school's faculty. Total enrollment is about 1,600, including students who attend the college's Albuquerque center. About two fifths of the students are state residents, and many pursue degrees on a part-time basis. Hispanic Americans make up about a quarter of the student body. The numbers of men and women seeking degrees are about equal. Undergraduate fields of study include liberal arts and sciences, communications, religion, fine arts, performing arts, and computer science. The school also offers the master of business administration degree and a master of education. More than a third of full-time faculty members hold doctorates. The academic calendar is divided into semesters. The winter brings students many opportunities to ski at nearby resorts. The campus does not compete in intercollegiate sports but has a number of intramural sports. Other extracurricular options include campus publications, honor and departmental organizations, performing arts groups, and social clubs. |
