educational institution located on about 90 acres (35 hectares) in San Diego, Calif. It was founded in 1902 in Los Angeles as Pacific Bible College and has changed names and locations many times throughout the years. The college is affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. Most of the students are Protestant. Religion and philosophy courses are required for graduation, and attendance at chapel services is expected.

Point Loma Nazarene enrolls more than 2,000 undergraduates, most of whom are state residents. Women outnumber men. Students are required to live on campus through their junior year unless living with relatives. All housing is single-sex, and some dormitories are reserved for freshmen. The college also enrolls about 400 students seeking master's degrees, with those classes taking place on a campus in Pasadena, Calif.

The academic calendar is divided into semesters. About two thirds of the full-time faculty hold doctorates. Undergraduate programs are within the fields of fine arts, business, biological sciences, education, communications, computer science, home economics, liberal arts and sciences, nursing, performing arts, and religious studies. Graduate programs are available in education, religion, and theology.

Among the extracurricular activities at the college are fraternities and sororities, the student newspaper, a chorus, drama group, and intramural sports. Varsity sports teams participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
