The university offers programs in health-related fields and is known as one of the top comprehensive medical schools in the United States. Total enrollment is about 1,400, with undergraduates numbering about 300. The campus covers more than 115 acres (47 hectares) and contains some housing space for students who require it.

The academic calendar is divided into quarters. Undergraduates, the majority of whom are women and state residents, can choose from majors in dental services, medical technology, nursing, and radiological technology. Upper-level programs include health professions and related sciences, dentistry, and medicine. The medical school accepts only about 10 percent of applicants.
