educational institution that is part of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Mass. The school, established in 1876, focuses on studio art. Concentrations include ceramics, computer art, drawing, film, graphics, jewelry, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, stained glass, and video. Professional artists serve as instructors, many combining teaching duties with their own projects.

Students can choose to earn a diploma from the school or to pursue a degree through the school's affiliation with Tufts University. Such a degree requires the completion of academic requirements as well as studio courses. Students can earn a bachelor of fine arts degree (with or without an emphasis on art education) or two bachelor's degrees, one in fine arts and one in another discipline. Similar arrangements between the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts exist at the master's level. The academic calendar is divided into semesters.

Enrollment consists of roughly 700 students, including some 60 graduate students. More than half of the students are over the age of 25. All students commute to classes.
