(pen name of Cincinnatus Hiner Miller) (1841?–1913), U.S. poet of the West. Miller was born near Liberty, Ind., and moved with his family to Oregon in 1852. He was a gold miner, soldier, journalist, lawyer, and judge at various times, but he was best known for his poetry, much of which celebrated the West. On a trip to England in the 1870s his writings attracted attention, as did his Western costume. His most famous work was ‘Songs of the Sierras' (1871).
