(born 1957). U.S. actress Melanie Griffith, the daughter of actress Tippi Hedren—one of director Alfred Hitchcock's cool, blonde heroines, was blonde like her mother but hardly cool. Griffith was unconventional, with a little girl's voice and a wanton look. Griffith was born on Aug. 9, 1957, in New York City. She was a sensation at 17 in her film debut, Night Moves (1975), but her next films were not as successful. She gained fame in the mid-1980s for her work in Body Double (1984), Something Wild (1986), and Stormy Monday (1988). She received an Academy award nomination for Working Girl (1988). Griffith's later movies include Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), Pacific Heights (1990), Paradise (1991), A Stranger Among Us (1992), Born Yesterday (1993), Mulholland Falls (1996), and Crazy in Alabama (1999). |
