private institution covering 150 acres (60 hectares) in Beverly, Mass., 20 miles (32 kilometers) from Boston. Its name honors John Endicott (also spelled Endecott), colonial governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The college was founded in 1939 and awards associate and bachelor's degrees. In the fall of 1994 the college became fully coeducational after a history as primarily a women's school. Enrollment totals about 800 students, with relatively equal numbers of state residents and out-of-state students. Roughly a fourth of the students are over the age of 25. Traditional-age students who do not live with their parents are expected to reside in campus housing.

The college operates on a 4-1-4 system, which means two full semesters of four months each and a one-month term in between. In addition to a range of associate programs, Endicott offers four-year programs in education, communications, fine arts, nursing, athletic training, interior design, travel and tourism, psychology, and a few business-related fields. The college considers internships to be a vital part of the curriculum, and all associate and bachelor's degree candidates hold an off-campus position at some point during their college career. An international hospitality studies program brings interested students to hotel management schools in Switzerland or the United Kingdom.

Endicott offers some 30 extracurricular activities, including musical and theatrical groups, commuters club, publications, sailing and ski clubs, and honor societies. Varsity sports teams compete in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
