(1881–1953), U.S. jurist and political leader. A champion of Alaskan statehood, Anthony Dimond was born on Nov. 30, 1881, in Palatine Bridge, N.Y. He went to Alaska as a prospector and miner in 1904. In 1913 he began practicing law there and was a member of the Alaska Territorial Senate. He was the mayor of Valdez, Alaska, for nine years. In 1933 he became a delegate from Alaska to the United States Congress, and in 1945 he became a district court judge in Anchorage.
