private institution located on 120 acres (49 hectares) in Milton, Mass. Founded in Boston in 1879 by Samuel Silas Curry and Anna Baright Curry, it moved to suburban Milton in 1952. Enrollment consists of roughly 1,300 students, including a few graduate students. Most students come from the New England and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. More than a fourth of the students attend part-time. The academic calendar is divided into semesters. More than 40 percent of the full-time faculty hold doctorates. The college also employs numerous part-time instructors. At the graduate level, Curry offers the master of education degree. Undergraduate disciplines include nursing, liberal arts and sciences, education, business, communications, justice studies, and visual arts. The college has a special program that provides support to students with learning disabilities. About a third of Curry students hold internships at some point in their college careers, mostly in the Boston area. Campus housing can accommodate about half of the students. College life includes a student-run radio station, publications, musical and theatrical groups, community service organizations, and intramural sports. Varsity sports teams compete in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. |
