undergraduate institution covering 20 acres (8 hectares) in Austin, Tex. It was founded in 1926 and is affiliated with the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. Enrollment consists of approximately 700 students, most of whom are state residents. Women outnumber men. About a quarter of the students attend part-time, and many are over the age of 25. Traditional-age freshmen must reside in campus housing. Concordia Lutheran operates on a semester calendar and awards associate and bachelor's degrees. Fields of study include education, business, religious studies, liberal arts, communications, environmental sciences, music, Spanish, and Mexican American studies. More than 60 percent of the full-time faculty hold doctorates. Extracurricular activities at the college include performing arts groups, a student-run newspaper, an environmental awareness club, religious organizations, career-related clubs, and intramural sports. Varsity sports teams compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. |
