nontraditional university headquartered in Bellevue, Wash. Instead of being situated at a fixed campus, the university conducts classes at various sites deemed convenient to students. Ten of these are in the Greater Seattle–Puget Sound area. Classes are also held in other parts of Washington, several neighboring states, and a few foreign countries. The university opened in 1973 and is noncompetitive. It primarily serves working adults, and classes are offered during the daytime, evening, and weekend to allow greater flexibility in scheduling. City University also runs the Distance Learning Program, which enables students to complete their degrees from anywhere in the world via various communications methods, including fax, telephone, and mail. The university offers some associate degrees plus a few certificate programs. Undergraduate disciplines leading to bachelor's degrees include business, computer and information sciences, aviation management, fire command administration, law enforcement administration, health-care administration, liberal arts and sciences, film studies, and journalism. Graduate studies lead to a master's degree in the arts, business administration, education, or public administration. The university maintains some core faculty but relies mainly on adjunct instructors. |
