75-acre (30-hectare) campus in Riverside, Calif., 50 miles (80 kilometers) east of Los Angeles. It was founded in 1950 and is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The college requires all students to take religion or philosophy classes and to attend chapel services. More than four fifths of the students are Protestant. Enrollment is about 900 students, including about 50 graduate students. The numbers of men and women attending are roughly equal. The majority of students are California residents. The campus contains single-sex dormitories and housing for married students. The academic calendar is divided 4-1-4: two full semesters of four months each and a one-month term in between. Undergraduate fields of study include liberal arts and sciences, business, elementary and secondary education, public administration, recreation and leisure services, and theatrical arts. More than half of the full-time faculty hold doctorates. The college grants special scholarships to high school valedictorians and salutatorians plus other merit scholarships to those who had at least a 3.5 grade point average in high school. Music, drama, art, and athletic scholarships are also awarded. The college's graduate program consists of coursework leading to a master's degree in counseling. Varsity sports teams compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Other extracurricular activities at the college include a drama club, the student newspaper, intramural sports, and chorus. |
