(1885–1965), American magician, born Harry Boughton in Chicago, Ill.; performed with brother Pete in act called Straight and Crooked Magic, a comedy and magic show; performed as Blackstone the Magician in vaudeville 1918–29; continued to tour for more than three decades as last of great magicians; noted for performing the “dancing handkerchief,” the “vanishing birdcage,” and the “floating light bulb”; also designed Hindu rope trick in which a boy climbs up rope suspended in air and disappears; appeared on television 1950s; son, Harry Blackstone, Jr., also famous magician.
