(1893–1958), U.S. industrial and theatrical designer. Born in Adrian, Mich., Norman Bel Geddes designed theatrical sets that contributed to the mood of the production and became a functional part of the play. His work included stage sets for ‘The Miracle' and ‘Hamlet'. In the late 1920s he adapted his ideas to industrial design and built his own organization. He designed automobiles, ships, and airplanes. His published works included an autobiography, ‘Miracle in the Evening'. (See also Industrial Design.)
