It was founded in 1978 and grants bachelor's, master's, and professional degrees in fields dealing with the natural health sciences. Enrollment consists of roughly 300 students, with women greatly outnumbering men. The university attracts students from across the United States and Canada. All students commute to class. The academic calendar is divided into quarters. All bachelor's degree candidates enter with previous college experience, and they can earn a degree in nutrition or Oriental medicine. In conjunction with the Leadership Institute of Seattle, the university also offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in applied behavioral sciences.
