Roman Catholic institution founded by the Augustinians of the Assumption in 1904. The campus covers 150 acres (60 hectares) in Worcester, Mass. The college enrolls roughly 1,700 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students, a substantial number of whom come from outside of the state.

Assumption operates on the semester system and grants bachelor's and master's degrees. More than 85 percent of the full-time faculty hold doctorates. The college also employs numerous part-time instructors. Undergraduate disciplines include liberal arts and sciences, business, education, computer science, international studies, medical technology, music, social work, and religious studies. Students interested in engineering can enroll in a dual-degree program with Worcester Polytechnic Institute. A similar program with Assumption's Institute for Social and Rehabilitation Services grants students a bachelor's degree and a graduate professional degree upon completion. Opportunities exist to study off-campus both locally and abroad. About 30 percent of the undergraduates pursue advanced studies within a year of graduation. Assumption conducts graduate programs in many of the same areas as undergraduate studies as well as in theology.

A large number of students choose to live in campus housing. College life includes publications, musical and theatrical groups, and intramural sports. Varsity sports teams compete in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
