in Alamosa, Colo., 230 miles (370 kilometers) southwest of Denver. This small-town campus covers 90 acres (36 hectares) and attracts primarily state residents. It was founded in 1921 and is state-supported. Undergraduates pursue associate and bachelor's degrees in liberal arts and sciences, business, education, exercise physiology and leisure science, Hispanic and Southwest studies, speech and theater, and art. The master's program is limited to education, fine arts, and social sciences. The academic calendar is divided into semesters. More than three fifths of the full-time faculty have doctorates. The acceptance rate for applicants to Adams State is very high, and the total enrollment is about 2,400. The numbers of male and female students are roughly equal. Sports teams compete in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. School colors are green and white. Many students take advantage of the nearby mountains for recreational activity. |
