town, southwestern Manitoba, Canada. It lies at the confluence of Plum Creek and the Souris River, 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Brandon. Settled about 1880, it developed as a retailing and service centre for a grain-growing district. The town is known for its Gravel Pits (a popular rock-collecting site with an abundance of petrified wood, jasper, agates, and dendrite) and for its swinging footbridge (one of Canada's longest, 582 feet [177 m]) across the Souris River.
